Manager checklist

To ensure that a map meets accessibility requirements to WCAG 2.0, the following checklist should be used as part of the sign off process before maps are made available to the end user.

Level A

MAP_A1:

Can the maps be accessed by the keyboard?

MAP_A2:

Is the map free of keyboard traps?

MAP_A3:

Does the map have an accessible alternative?

MAP_A4:

Does the accessible alternative present equivalent content?

MAP_A5:

Is there a link to the accessible alternative (e.g. for a flash map)?

MAP_A6:

Does the map display correctly when JavaScript is disabled?

MAP_A7:

Does the map function correctly when JavaScript is disabled?

MAP_A8:

Does the map display correctly when Flash is disabled?

MAP_A9:

Does the map function correctly when Flash is disabled?

MAP_A10:

Is the map visible when style sheets are disabled?

MAP_A11:

Does the map function correctly when style sheets are disabled?

MAP_A12:

Does the map display correctly when style sheets are disabled (i.e. there is no overlapping or duplication of content)?

MAP_A13:

Is content unchanged when style sheets are disabled (i.e. no additional text (or functionality) appears)?

MAP_A14:

Do any iFrames have an accessible alternative?

MAP_A15:

Are image maps client-side (not server-side)?

MAP_A16:

Do all map images and image map areas have an ALT attribute? ALT=”…” MUST BE present.

MAP_A17:

Do the ALT attributes accurately describe the image and image map areas or convey its purpose?

MAP_A18:

Are the ALT attributes for non-complex images and image map areas concise?

MAP_A19:

Is there a long description for complex images and image maps (and areas)?

MAP_A20:

Do the long descriptions meet the following criteria:- Is it provided as a part of the page content?Is the long description (or a link to it) near the map?Is the long description referred to in the ALT attribute of the map?Is the long description equivalent to the map?Is the long description marked up as text (i.e. the LONGDESC attribute is not used)?

MAP_A21:

Do changes to map content occur only after the current focus?

MAP_A22:

Is information conveyed by the map not reliant on colour (or shading) alone?

MAP_A23:

Is information conveyed by the map not reliant on shape alone?

Level AA

MAP _AA1:

Can the map text size be increased without losing functionality?

MAP_AA2:

Has sufficient colour contrast been used between the foreground and background?

MAP _AA3:

Does the map have a visible keyboard indicator?
